Well, I'm back. First time in two years I've visited this blog, actually I forgot I had it up and running. I'm trying out a new Google service called "Hello," which works with their "Picassa" photo album software. Should be able to post some pictures here in the near future.

Golfed today again over at Glenview. Shot 101 again, while Drew shot an 89 despite depositing 5 balls into various water hazards throughout the round. Connor had problems, especially on the front nine and finished with a 104. We golfed with a fellow named jim from Maine who just moved to the Villages last April and loves it. Yesterday afternoon we went to see the new Civil War movie "God's and Generals." It was fabulous. My new hero is Colonal Joshua Chamberlain, the commander of the 20th Maine division (played by Jeff Danials.)

Hello all (whoever that may be?!) We played some basketball yesterday and had lots of fun. Connor and I against Drew and Blake - 2 on 2. We won the first game, but lost the next two. Then we played 2 games of HORSE, Drew won the first (after a great shooting dual with Blake, who is quite a shooter) and I took the second (despite Connor hitting 3 straight 15 footers with his eyes closed!) We stopped on the way back at the local Walgreens and bought cards for Cheryl, it's her birthday on Monday! Last night we went to see the Orlando Magic play the Chicago Bulls. Tracy McGrady put on an unbelievable performance, scoring 52 points in only three quarters. We were disgusted that the coach sat him on the bench for the final quarter. His after the game comments were that the game was well in hand and there was no need to put Tracy back in. Give me a break, I paid to see an NBA game, and for my money I want to see the best players playing to the best of their ability. To pull out a player going for a once in a lifetime 70 or 80 point performance is ludacrous and an injustice to the fans. If they tried that nonsense in Philly, New York, or Boston the fans and press would be all over it, but down here in "happyville" Orlando it was taken in stride... oh well, we still got to see him score 52, not a bad night. By the way, the Waterhouse Center is a beautiful building and a great place to watch a game.

Just found an incredible piece of writing by Bill Whittle. The title of the essay is Courage, and it's about the astronauts in the space shuttle Columbia. It's a long piece, but well worth reading. Be warned however, that it is a very emotional piece.

Good Morning! Shot another 101 yesterday at Eagle Ridge (Masters 9 and Champions 9) in an up-and-down round. Drew had an 86, Connor a 96 and Allen a 112. I'm incredibly inconsistant. After triple bogies on three straight holes, I pulled my driver out of the bag for the first time this week on "Champions" 5th hole and proceeded to drive the ball 290 yards straight down the middle. I shot par on 3 of the next four holes. I'm going to take lessons this summer.
Last night we went to dinner at Augustino's Restaurant in the Villages town square. Afterwards we walked around the square flea market where I bought 3 good looking watches (including one USA Flag watch) for $5 each. What a bargin!
Finally finished marking my students' social studies test essay questions last night. I've been reading their views on Sparta vs. Athens and The Peloponnesian War since Sunday! They were very interesting and at times entertaining. Today I plan to finish marking the rest of the test. No golf today, we're playing some basketball and then going to the Orlando Magic game tonight!

What a beautiful day in Florida! Sunny and 75 today with a light breeze. The day started of cool as we tee'ed off at the Villages Nancy Lopez Legacy course at 8 AM today. We played the Torri Pines nine first and finished on Erinn Glenn The fairways were in great shape, the rough is short (that good) and the greens are slow and soft. It's a fairly short course with water hazards on every hole, most of which I ventured near or in during the round. Drew was the man today, shooting a blistering 81 and leaving Connor and I behind in the dust. Connor had a decent game himself, shooting 95 while I struggled (at least compared to yesterday), finishing with a 101. Highlight of my day was 160 yard 7-iron shot on Erinn Glen hole 7 that I hit over a huge tree. The ball landed on the green, hit the pin and ended up two feet from the hole! ( A gimme for a par... Incredibly Connor sank a 10 foot put on the same green for a birdie!) After our 4 hour round, yes we were moving, we had lunch. Pop Pop and Blake went golfing today at a 9 hole course. Blake at 11 has trouble finishing all 18. Afterwards they sailed Allen's model boat on the pond. Saw Rumsfeld on Cspan this afternoon and he was pretty convincing. He is a master wordsmith when he deals with the press. What a great vacation so far!

Today I played golf at Glenview with Allen, Drew and Connor and beat them all. It's the first time in 2 years I have beaten Drew (12 handicap) and probably will be the last time. This was the best golf I've played in many years. Now to keep it up... sure, no problem..LOL. The weather was perfect, 68 degrees and sunny! I play again tomorrow at 8:00 am with Drew and Connor, while Blake plays a smaller course with Allen.
